Jesus of Christ
Jesus of Christ?
Who is Jesus of Christ, or what is Jesus of Christ?
Christianity, Judaism, Islam and most of the world's other major religions,
as well as Jewish historians, agree that the person you referred to as
Jesus of Christ walked the earth some two thousand years ago.
Who exactly was Jesus of Christ?
According to Judaism and Islam, the person referred to as Jesus of Christ
was a prophet of God.
But according to the Bible, "Jesus of Christ"
wasn't just a prophet of God, but God Himself. The Bible says that the referred to Jesus
of Christ is both fully man and fully God, who voluntarily became a human
being in order to pay the death penalty for our sins to save us. The Bible
says that He did that because He loves us, and that He died, was buried, and
returned to life 3 days later to prove his deity.
"Jesus", which is "Yeshua" in Hebrew and "Issa" in Arabic, is the name of the
person you referred to as Jesus of Christ.. Meanwhile, "Christ", which is "Messiah" in
Hebrew, means "Savior".
However, calling Him "Jesus of Christ" is a misnomer because "Jesus of Christ"
is erroneous.
Why is "Jesus of Christ" erroneous? It's because Jesus of Christ implies
that Jesus is from Christ or that Jesus belongs to Christ, when in fact,
Jesus is the Christ - i.e., the Savior. So, Jesus should be called, "Christ"
or "Jesus Christ" or "Lord", but not "Jesus OF Christ".
How Jesus should be called aside, the more important question is, are the
Bible's claims about Christ in fact true? Is He in fact God, who out of His
love for us came to us as a human being, died to pay the death penalty for
our sins, and rose from the dead to prove His deity?
